Cleanses and Detoxification: Can They Be Dangerous?

If followed properly, cleansing can be very safe and may carry great health benefits.
Although internal cleansing and detoxification are not commonly practiced in modern western society, they have been employed for centuries in many cultures around the world.
As we are increasingly exposed to toxic compounds in our air, water and food, it has become apparent that our ability to detoxify substances to which we are exposed is of critical importance to our overall health and wellbeing.
Although the body is designed to be efficient at dealing with keeping us healthy, it becomes increasingly more difficult for the body to function at an optimal health level if it has to constantly deal with accumulated toxins or is in some state of nutritional deficiency.
This is true for most of us because our bodies are continually bombarded with toxins and chemicals from the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the insecticides/pesticides we are exposed to, the meat and dairy we eat that is injuected with hormones, steroids and antibiotics; and the household cleaners, cosmetics and personal care items in common use.
All of these factors have been linked in some way to disease and compromised health. And our bodies are crying out for the nutrients they need through the health struggles we face and our unsuccessful attempts to make change or reach our goals.
While studies have shown that fat cells hold on to these detrimental toxins, how much of these toxins are we retaining in our bodies and what impact is that having on our physical, mental and emotional health?
With so much of our food being processed, chemically altered or devoid of real nutritional vlaue, most of us are either nutritionally depleted or bankrupt.
And it is very ironic that Canada and the US are possibly two of the most overfed yet undernourished countries on the planet.
One of the ways to effectively tackle these issues is to cleanse the body internally while supporting the body nutritionally, allowing it to rejuvenate at the same time.
When you help the body to rid itself or impurities while flooding it with high quality nutrients, your body will have the chance to strengthen internally.
This will in turn enhance the body's ability to function at an optimal level. As a result, you will experience the benefits of increased energy, stamina, clarity of mind, ability to burn fat and improved overall health.
Of course, no one product is a cure-all or a miracle program. But cleansing can be an easy-to-follow, cost effective way to improve and maintain your own health and well-being.
And although cleansing itself is not intended as a diet measure, one of the greatest benefits of most programs is that it will jump-start your body into a fat-burning mode in a very healthy and balanced way.
